for the umpteenth time, no i haven't read the newest harry potter book yet.
just when you thought everyone and their moms and grandmoms are on chapter three or so of the newest harry potter book, i stroll into a nearly empty bookstore to purchase mine. get over your surprise, not everyone is gungho about lining up to be the first to get their hands on the second to the last book of the hp series. i also opted not to order the book, months in advance, from the big bookstores. nope siree. to tell you the truth, i really didn't even know when the release date was. rather, i knew and forgot about it. but it's hard not to be reminded specially since everyone seems to be talking about nothing but the release. but i didn't want to join the crowd. i figure, there'll be plenty of copies left even after the madrush. and even if they run out of copies, almost EVERYONE i know will have one. i'm sure one of my generous friends would lend me their copy.

so yeah, today on the way to our weekend ritual of having soup, salad and crepe for brunch, i realized that the quaint bookstore across the cafe that i love to frequent for their old, rare books might actually have some copies in stock. so after we enjoyed our meal, we scooted over there and picked up a copy. so what if i payed a bit more than what barnes and nobles or amazon or borders wanted for the book. atleast i was able to help the small biz segment.

anyhoo, i have been home for more than two hours now and i still haven't flipped through the pages. yeah, i know, self restraint. but i told myself, i'm already reading three books, i'm not going to open this one until i finish atleast one of them. so, i did just that and finished reading 'stolen' by kelley armstrong.

some of you guys are probably half way through, if not already finished reading the book already. you guys are fast readers. i'm not. and so far, i haven't found a book where i felt the urgency to read the whole thing in one sitting. sure, i got all excited with the first five hp books. but i also got excited reading bill bryson's a walk in the woods, and of course, niffenegger's "the time traveler's wife" which, i must add, is an excellent book. but none of these books, to me, is worth losing my sleep, or worth missing a good conversation with lj, or worth giving up meeting with friends, or worth giving up time spent with tiny. and even when i'm in a confined environment, like an airplane perhaps, where i have three to six hours to myself, i would engage myself to reading but that only last for so long. eventually, i find myself scrambling for another book, flipping through some boring airplane magazine, or maybe even engaging the stranger next to me for some interesting conversation.

so, give me a month to read this book as i have two others that i'm reading as well. and it's not only because i'm a slow reader, it's just that there are other things that need to be done.

Ah, don't worry, I'm a slow reader, too. I'm taking my time to absorb all the Harry Potter-ness in book 6.

I happened to be at Wal Mart on Friday nite (I guess that's what newly married people do...go to wal mart. But the Voodoo in me likes to people watch, and I have concluded thusly, the later you go to Wal Mart the more freakish the customers are). And yes, I stood in line for my copy of #6.

As thrilled as I was to have it in my hot little hands (literally, as it was 100 degrees that night), I didn't crack that bad boy open until today.

I'm not so much the slow reader, but for Chrissakes, the Tour de France is on and that's what I'd rather be doing...and helping my Mango move in.

trish - great! in a month or so, you and i can talk about hp! =).

voodizzle - weird isn't it? that you don't discover walmart until AFTER you've tied the knot. it took me five years to discover it! anyhoo, time travelers is definitely a must!
