my thoughts. exactly. |
March 05, 2005 i was looking through my friendster list and almost every single person that is linked to me has more 'friends' on their list than i do. i've always thought that i have a lot of friends. and back in the days, when i was young and stupid (as opposed to now when i'm old and even more stupid?), that the number of friends i have indicated what a cool person i am. but of course, now i realize, that it is not the quantity, but the quality of friendship that i keep that matters the most. God forbid, i make - or maybe i have already made it unbeknownst to everyone else? - a horrible mistake in my life, which of my friends will stick around? i know a handful of them will call me a fool, tell me what a horrible thing i did, recount my ways to me, over and over again, to make me feel like an ass over and over again, but still stick around and stay true to me. there's also those who will not have the nerve to tell me my faults, tell me that everything will be ok, but as soon as i turn my back they will incessantly talk about me and the horrible person that i am. there are also those who will not only frown upon what i have done, but they will also tell me i belong in hell, and then distance themselves from the disease that i have become. sigh. if i were to keep just the first set of friends as i have described above, i will probably be left with less than ten. can i live with just ten brutally honest (or, per aud, brutally mean?) friends? probably. but am i cutthroat enough to rid myself of the rest? probably not. i'll keep them. but i'll never confide in them. i'll hang around them. but never share my life with them. atleast, when i sin and they become aware of what i have done, i won't be too disappointed of their reactions. and when i die that horrible death (horrible but painless), i won't expect them to cry.

Sounds like a blog post I've been pondering... Anyways, in my tiny world, there are levels of friendship, those you keep around you is relatively small. Those that you can stroll into a bar and wave to gets larger. Dante's Inferno of Friendster is sort of that way. There are friendster whores who like to collect friends ("Hey, I saw you at the mall. Join my friendster.") and they sort of skew the bunch, but what can ya do. So yah, wanna join my friendster or what. voodizzle - i'll join your friendster only if you'll have a drink with me after you wave at me from across the bar =).
