January 09, 2005 weekend in pictures (again) 
on friday night when i got home, i started reading 'deception point' by dan brown. lounging with a book in hand, what i enjoy doing once in awhile for the few occassions i have the house to (tiny and) myself. while reading, ash came down to the den to bother me (which basically means they want some food). so i followed her upstairs, fed them, and sort of hang out with them for a bit. these pictures are taken for some of you who might think i have taken the liberty of 'getting rid' of my cats. they are very much alive!  
on saturday, i woke up real early in the morning to attend ballet class for the first time in thirteen years. i only mentioned my plans of taking ballet again to a couple of people because i didn't know how it'd turn out. i didn't do as bad as i thought i would. i did pretty well at the barre but the floor barre was a different story. it's a good thing that i can laugh at myself because i was sort of pathetic on the floor, not remembering the steps etc... i resorted to taking a space in the corner and mimicking the steps from there so as not to disturb those that knew exactly what they were doing. i chuckled at how i looked in all the mirrors that surrounded the studio coz i could see how much of a fool i looked trying to do all the steps! but i'll let myself ease into it and learn the routines once again. i had fun even though any kind of movement right now causes me to wince in agony. i'm sore all over and i have rediscovered muscles that i probably haven't used in a long long time.. i'll be attending twice a week so hopefully my body will adjust.  after the class, i trekked in the rain to the city where i met up with steve. we had lunch at bao noodles on 2nd ave where we had some spring rolls and pho soup, perfect for such a rainy day as saturday. we then proceeded to princeton and paragon to check out some snowboarding gears, then to guitar world where steve fought the urge to purchase a guitar. actually, the guitar that he wanted wasn't there anymore, and spending more than his budget meant me kicking his ass. so yeah, he didn't buy anything. from guitar world, we started heading back to the car but steve's on a hunt for a decent jacket (probably coz i kept on saying 'you need an effing jacket!') so we went into esprit where i ended up spending some mula, and he spent nada. unfair, i tell you. anyway, we actually managed to pass by and skip other stores like a|x and banana republic but only because we were late for our next venture - kat's band practice. while we were trying to make our way to holland tunnel, the phone rang and it was kat asking if i happen to stop by magnolia which i translated to 'can you stop by at magnolia?' but only because as soon as i heard her say magnolia, i know i had to stop and get some cupcakes. since it's almost impossible to find a parking space there, i sat in the comfort of my car in front of the bakery and had steve (who didn't have a jacket) stood in line.  yes, there's a line to get these incredible cupcakes which are not really out of this world but still very good. after maybe 20 mins of being in line and waiting for the fresh cupcakes to come out of the oven, steve stepped out with half-doz chocolate cupcakes (for kat) and half-doz vanilla cupcakes (for me). then we're off to jersey.
you know, i have heard kat talk about her band since she joined one. and ever since then i have been wanting to go to their practice to check them out. i'm the kind of person who would tell you my opinion, with all honesty, if you ask me for it. i think kat knows that. i'm sure someone out there is wondering 'so, how was her band?'. in all honesty, they sounded pretty cool. they've only been together for a short period of time but they played some of their original music and i'm quite impressed with some of them, the song 'death' being my favorite (but that's just coz i'm morbid). the fact that they haven't practiced in a month (or so?), the sound systems not working properly, and the drummer they had that day was someone they were auditioning may have contributed to some of the songs not sounding the way they should on a normal practice day. not bad at all. granted i won't go as far as saying they are absolutely rockin' coz then i'd be straight out lyin' but i'm really proud of kat coz she's pretty much doing what she wants to do, and actually very good at it! if you want to see (and hear) a quick clip of their band practice, click here.  after band practice we picked up mark five and headed to this restaurant in edgewater (can't remember the name of it) where i had some delish crunchy spicy salmon roll and an interesting spicy tuna sandwich sushi, and of course some dessert (mini sundae with homemade strawberry ice cream). after dindin, i dropped off kat and mark five, then steve, then proceeded to drive north to go home.
today is sunday and my backyard is still in ice, may look like snow but my dog tiny will attest to the fact that it is frozen back there. she was sliding all over the place when she attempted to run around back there. anyway, nothin' much to do today. not that i really want to do anything since, like i said, any movement brings me pain as a result of the class yesterday. so i'm just going to sit back, and probably do what i did friday night. no, not try to take over the world - riss is already doing that - but lounge with a good book while listening to lj's commentary as he plays dragon ballz on the playstation 2 and while tiny drools on my lap.

hi g. wow, i love your dog. i love the fact that you have a band. please give my regards to kat. rock on. batjay Tell me if deception point is any good. Digital Fortress didn't do anything for me other than made me painfully aware that all our bases belong to the government (old 80's game reference).
