my thoughts. exactly. |
July 07, 2003 Yeh Gawd! Today was my first day at work at MasterCard. My entire first day at work was spent in orientation. Very extensive, exhausting, hardcore, whole day orientation. Some peeps from my department took me to lunch at the cafeteria (they had a salad, sandwich, dessert, hot food, daily special stations and the food was very good!). It was pretty cool coz as soon as we were let out for lunch break my team was waiting for me outside the door. Anyway, HR went over all the benefits of working for MC. Let me tell you, this company knows how to take care of its employees. They have all the great benefits like profit sharing, 401K, pension plan, tuition reimbursement, in-campus MBA program, and of course the health insurance. They also offer services like legal aid, 'domestic partner insurance (for same sex as well!), Employee Assistance, Adoption Assistance, etc... We were given a tour of the MC Campus. It's unbelievable the kind of amenities they have at the Purchase facility. They have a cyber cafe section for guests who might want to access the internet. There's also a library that's very helpful in doing research (specially helpful for their MBA students). There's a personnel service area where you can get a haircut/blowdry, manicure/pedicure, massage, reflexology, shoe shining. The gym is state of the art and they would even wash your gym clothes for you for free! All you have to do is leave it in your bin and in 24 hours it'll be waiting for you in your very own locker. They also have a full-time nurse just in case something happens. Its pretty intimidating to be switching from a small, unorganized company to a big, industry leader company like MasterCard. I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty with actual work. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll hear all about it!
